Mabel by candlelight

I finished another Mabel skirt. This time I used a red and black double knit, bought a few months ago at the Utrecht fabric market. The result: very comfortable party wear! Construction wise there's nothing new, so I thought I'd let the pictures tell the story.

That's me, modelling my Mabel skirt at a party. Take a close look and you might just see the waistband. Fashion pic fail! Not to worry, mr Foxgloves would take some pictures when we went to a concert last week.

Same outfit, another glas of wine, candlelight and an iPhone camera. Sorry! December parties, great atmosphere, crappy pictures. Cheers!

  1. I think these are fantastic party photos - it's nice to see a picture of you and Mr Foxglove. We can catch up with a better picture of the skirt another time :)

    1. The party season isn't over yet so I'll try and take a better picture anytime soon!

  2. I love your skirt! Wish I could get my hands on some of that fabric :) I have just bought this pattern and I am a little weary about the sizing of the skirt as some versions of this skirt look like they have been shrink wrapped on (too tight). The fit of yours looks lovely and it's very flattering. Do you recommend just going by the corresponding size to the pattern or sizing up a little?

    1. I had to check this old post http://foxglovesandthimbles.blogspot.nl/2014/04/mabel-whats-not-to-like.html to see what I did initially. Just like you I was worried about the negative ease of the pattern. I remember being in between sizes and choosing the 'safe side', as it's impossible to let the seams out with 3/8 inch seam allowances. For the hips this turned out fine, the waistband was a bit wide. I had to take it in, otherwise the skirt wouldn't stay up. Since you only need one yard of fabric you can play around a bit while making your first Mabel. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Good luck!

    2. Thanks Marianne :) As you say 1 meter of fabric is too much to risk on a trial run
